ولیمے کا حکم
حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف پر زردی کا اثر دیکھا تو ان سے پوچھا "یہ کیا ہے؟" انہوں نے عرض کیا: "میں نے ایک عورت سے شادی کی ہے، کھجور کی گٹھلی کے برابر سونے پر (یعنی اس مہر پر)۔" تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: "اللہ تمہیں مبارک کرے! دعوتِ ولیمہ کرو اگرچہ ایک بکری کا ہی کر ڈالو۔" (بخاری و مسلم)
شادی انسانی زندگی کا ایک لازمی حصہ ہے، بلکہ بعض علما یہ فرماتے ہیں کہ شادی انسانی زندگی کی ایسی ہی ضرورت ہے جیسے کھانا، پینا وغیرہ۔ اسلامی معاشرے میں شادی و نکاح کھیلوں سے پاک ایک سیدھا سادا عمل ہے۔ نہ طویل رسمیں ہیں نہ بے حساب اخراجات، اور ظاہر ہے کہ ضرورت کی چیز کو حاصل کرنا اگر مشکل اور پیچیدہ بنا دیا جائے تو پھر انسان غلط راستے اختیار کرنے پر مجبور ہو جاتا ہے۔ اسی لیے کہا گیا کہ جس معاشرے میں نکاح آسان ہوگا وہاں زنا مشکل ہوگا اور جہاں نکاح مشکل ہوگا وہاں زنا عام ہو جائے گا۔
شادی انسان کی زندگی کا ایک انتہائی خوشگوار موقع ہوتا ہے اور کسی نیک اور صالح عورت سے نکاح ہو جانا انسان پر اللہ کی بہت بڑی نعمت ہے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ اپنے بندوں پر اپنی نعمت کا اظہار دیکھنا پسند کرتا ہے اور ولیمہ اس کی عملی شکل ہے۔
دینِ اسلام کی خاص بات یہ ہے کہ اس میں ارشادات اور ان پر عمل ساتھ ساتھ ملتے ہیں۔ ہادیٔ برحق صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے امت کو اپنے ارشادات اور عمل دونوں سے رہنمائی فرمائی۔ چنانچہ شادی کی خوشی میں ولیمہ کی ترغیب ملتی ہے لیکن یہ واضح رہے کہ اس کا مطلب وہ نہیں جس کا مظاہرہ آج کل کے نام نہاد ولیموں میں ہوتا ہے جو دراصل دولت مندی کا اظہار ہوتا ہے۔ بعض احادیث سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ خود آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے نکاح کے ولیمے بہت سادہ اور تکلفات سے پاک ہوتے تھے۔ چنانچہ آپ نے بعض نکاح کا ولیمہ اس طور پر کیا کہ صرف دو سیر جو کام میں آئے۔ حضرت صفیہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے آپ کے نکاح کا جو ولیمہ ہوا اس میں چند کھجوریں، کچھ پنیر اور کچھ مکھن تھا (بحوالہ بخاری و مسلم)۔
آج کل کے ولیمے کی جگہ اسی جیسی دعوتِ ولیمہ مسنونہ، سنتِ نبوی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کر دی جاتی ہے کہ کہاں وہ سادگی اور کہاں یہ نمائش اور فضول خرچی۔
اللہ ہم سب کو اپنے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے کامل اتباع کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔ آمین۔

English translation
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw traces of yellow (perfume) on 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf and asked him: "What is this?" He replied: "I have married a woman for gold the weight of a date-stone (i.e. that was the dowry)." The Prophet ﷺ said: "May Allah bless you! Hold a wedding feast (walimah), even if with a single sheep."
Marriage is an essential part of human life; indeed some scholars say that marriage is as much a necessity of human life as eating and drinking. In Islamic society, marriage and the wedding contract are a plain and simple act, free of frivolity — no lengthy customs and no boundless expenses. And it is obvious that if obtaining a needed thing is made difficult and complicated, then a person is forced to adopt wrong ways. That is why it is said: in the society where marriage is easy, adultery will be difficult; and where marriage is difficult, adultery will become widespread.
Marriage is an extremely joyous occasion of a person's life, and marrying a pious and righteous woman is a very great blessing of Allah upon a person; and Allah the Exalted likes to see the manifestation of His blessing upon His servants, and the walimah is the practical form of this.
A special feature of the religion of Islam is that in it teachings and their practice are found side by side. The true guide ﷺ guided the Ummah both by his sayings and his deeds. Thus there is encouragement for the walimah in the joy of marriage — but it should be clear that this does not mean what is displayed in today's so-called walimahs, which are really a display of wealth. Some ahadith show that the Prophet's own wedding feasts were very simple and free of extravagance. Thus he held the walimah of one marriage with only two measures of barley. For his marriage to Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the walimah consisted of some dates, some cheese and some butter (as reported in Bukhari and Muslim).
In place of today's walimah, the very same Sunnah walimah of the Prophet ﷺ ought to be observed — where is that simplicity and where is this show and wasteful spending!
May Allah grant us all the ability to perfectly follow our Prophet ﷺ. Amin.
