صبر و شکر

Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Wondrous is the affair of the believer! His every affair and every state holds nothing but good for him. If joy and comfort come to him, he gives thanks to his Lord, and there is good for him in that; and if some grief and hardship befall him, he bears it with patience, and this patience too is for him a source of sheer good and blessing." (Muslim)

In this world there is joy and also sorrow, ease and also hardship, cold and also heat, pleasant things and also unpleasant — and all of it is from Allah alone. So when grief or calamity comes, one should not fall into despair, but rather hold firm in the heart the conviction that all of this is from Allah and that there is some wisdom of His in it. Likewise, when joy and comfort come, one should not regard it as one's own achievement or the fruit of one's own efforts, but even then hold the conviction that all of it is from Allah. There is no doubt that the true way to be grateful for Allah's blessings is for a person to live his life in accordance with the will of Allah.
