بلا تحقیق بات آگے بڑھانا
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ: “انسان کے جھوٹا ہونے کے لیے یہی کافی ہے کہ جو سنے اسے آگے بیان کر دے۔” (مسلم)
اس حدیثِ پاک میں رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ایک اہم مضمون کی طرف توجہ دلائی ہے اور وہ یہ ہے کہ بہت سے لوگوں کو بے سنے آدمیوں سے باتیں سننے اور خبریں معلوم کرنے کا مرض ہوتا ہے، پھر جو کچھ سنتے ہیں اسے دوسروں سے بغیر کسی جھجک کے بیان کر دیتے ہیں، جن لوگوں سے باتیں سنتے ہیں، اول تو ان میں بھی خوفِ خدا اور تقویٰ نہیں ہوتا، وہ خود بھی خبریں گھڑتے ہیں اور دوسرے اشخاص جن سے انہوں نے سنی ہوں وہ بھی بے احتیاط اور خود خبریں بنانے والے اور جھوٹ کو آگے بڑھانے والے ہوتے ہیں، اس لیے جس شخص کی یہ عادت ہو کہ جو کوئی بھی بات سنے اسے آگے بڑھا دے اس کے جھوٹا ہونے میں کوئی شک نہیں، اس لیے ہر سنی سنائی بات تحقیق کے بغیر بیان کرنا ایک طرح سے جھوٹ میں ملوث ہونا ہے، اس طرح کی باتوں میں اس کا قوی امکان ہوتا ہے کہ وہ بات بے بنیاد اور غلط ہو، آدمی کو چاہیے کہ وہ جو کچھ کہے پہلے اس کی تحقیق کر لے، افواہوں کو ہوا دینا کسی طرح بھی صحیح نہیں ہو سکتا، اس سے طرح طرح کے فتنوں کو سر اٹھانے کا موقع ملتا ہے، جس کا تجربہ آئے دن لوگوں کو ہوتا رہتا ہے۔
ایک موقعہ پر آپ ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ: “میری امت میں سب سے بہترین لوگ وہ ہیں جو میرے زمانہ میں ہیں، ان کے بعد وہ بہتر ہوں گے جو ان کے بعد ہوں گے، پھر ان کے بعد وہ بہتر ہوں گے جو ان کے بعد ہوں گے، ان کے بعد جھوٹ پھیل جائے گا (لوگ جھوٹ بولا کریں گے، اور جھوٹی گواہی میں اس قدر بے باک ہو جائیں گے کہ) گواہی طلب کیے بغیر گواہی دیں گے، اور قسم کھلائے بغیر کھا لیں گے۔” (ترمذی)
تحقیق کے بغیر کسی بات کو لوگوں سے بیان کرنا اور اسے پھیلانا بھی جھوٹ کی اشاعت ہے اور جھوٹ کے گناہ میں شبہ ہو سکتا ہے، بعض اوقات تحقیق کے بغیر بات پھیلانے کا انجام نہایت افسوس ناک صورت میں سامنے آتا ہے، کتنے ہی فتنہ و فساد محض افواہوں کی وجہ سے برپا ہوتے ہیں، کتنی ہی معصوم جانوں کی ہلاکت کے پیچھے محض افواہیں کام کر رہی ہوتی ہیں، جن کا حقیقت سے کوئی تعلق نہیں ہوتا، بے بنیاد افواہوں اور غلط خبروں کے سبب فضا میں کشیدگی پیدا ہو جاتی ہے جس کا انجام خونریزی اور تباہی و بربادی کے سوا کچھ اور نہیں ہوتا۔
اللہ تعالیٰ کا ارشادِ مبارک ہے: “اے مسلمانو! اگر تمہیں کوئی فاسق خبر دے تو تم اس کی اچھی طرح تحقیق کر لیا کرو، ایسا نہ ہو کہ نادانی میں کسی قوم کو ایذا پہنچا دو، پھر اپنے کیے پر پشیمانی اٹھاؤ۔” (الحجرات ۔۶)
اس آیتِ مبارکہ میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے ایک انتہائی اہم اصول بیان فرمایا ہے جس کی انفرادی و اجتماعی دونوں سطحوں پر نہایت اہمیت ہے، ہر فرد اور ہر حکومت کی یہ ذمہ داری ہے کہ اس کے پاس جو بھی خبر یا اطلاع آئے، بالخصوص بدکردار، فاسق اور مفسد قسم کے لوگوں کی طرف سے آئے تو پہلے اس کی تحقیق کی جائے تاکہ غلط فہمی میں کسی کے خلاف کوئی کارروائی نہ ہو۔
آج کے دور میں جھوٹ پوری طرح عام ہو چکا ہے، دروغ بے فروغ کی کثرت ہے، طرح طرح کی خبروں کی بہتات ہے، ایسی افواہیں پھیلتی ہیں اور ایسی متضاد خبریں پہنچتی ہیں کہ صحیح بات کا کوئی سراغ نہیں ملتا، سیاسی جماعتوں کے دفتروں میں جھوٹی خبریں گھڑتی ہیں اور جس کا اخبار فروخت نہیں ہوتا وہ حیرت انگیز اور وحشت ناک خبریں اپنے کمرے میں بیٹھ کر گھڑتا ہے اور موٹی موٹی سرخیوں سے چھاپتا ہے، آج کا دور میڈیا کا دور ہے، اخبارات، ریڈیو، ٹیلی ویژن اور انٹرنیٹ کے ذریعے لوگوں کو انتہائی خوبصورتی کے ساتھ جھوٹی خبریں نشر کی جاتی ہیں کہ سچائی ان جھوٹی خبروں میں دب جاتی ہے اور لوگ جھوٹ کو ہی سچ سمجھنے لگتے ہیں۔
آج ہم اسی دور سے گزر رہے ہیں، خبریں مشہور ہو جاتی ہیں، اور طرح طرح کی باتیں پھیل جاتی ہیں لیکن اس بات کا سراغ نہیں پکڑا جاتا کہ یہ بات کہاں سے چلی اور کیسے چلی اور اس میں سچ اور جھوٹ کتنا ہے، موجودہ دور کی خبروں سے دلچسپی لینے اور ان کو آگے بڑھانے سے پرہیز کرنا اور ایسی چیزوں سے خاموشی اختیار کرنا بہتر ہے کہ کہیں خدانخواستہ ہم لوگ بھی اسی حدیث کے زمرے میں نہ آ جائیں، اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کی حفاظت فرمائے۔ آمین!

English translation
It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “It is enough for a person to be a liar that he repeats everything he hears.”
In this blessed hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has drawn attention to an important matter: many people have a disease of listening to talk from anyone without verifying, and gathering news, and then relating whatever they hear to others without any hesitation. Firstly, those from whom they hear such talk themselves have no fear of God or piety; they fabricate news themselves, and the other persons from whom they may have heard it are likewise careless, fabricators of news and spreaders of falsehood. Therefore whoever has the habit of passing on every piece of talk he hears, there is no doubt about his being a liar. So relating every rumour heard, without verification, is a way of being entangled in falsehood; in such talk there is a strong likelihood that the matter is baseless and false. A person should, before saying anything, first verify it. Fanning rumours is in no way correct; it gives every kind of mischief an opportunity to raise its head, as people experience day after day.
On one occasion the Prophet ﷺ said: “The best people of my Ummah are those of my age; then those who come after them will be better; then those who come after them will be better; after them falsehood will spread (people will tell lies, and will become so brazen in false testimony that) they will give testimony without being asked for it, and they will swear oaths without being asked to.” (Tirmidhi)
Relating something to people without verification and spreading it is also the propagation of falsehood, and it may fall within the sin of lying. Sometimes the outcome of spreading a matter without verification appears in a most regrettable form; how much mischief and disorder is stirred up merely because of rumours; behind the destruction of how many innocent lives mere rumours are at work, having no connection with reality; baseless rumours and false reports create tension in the atmosphere, whose end is nothing but bloodshed, ruin and devastation.
Allah the Exalted says: “O Muslims! If a transgressor brings you news, verify it thoroughly, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and then become regretful over what you have done.” (Al-Hujurat 49:6)
In this blessed verse Allah the Exalted has stated an extremely important principle of great significance at both the individual and collective levels. It is the responsibility of every individual and every government that whatever news or report reaches it — especially coming from wicked, transgressing and corrupt sorts of people — should first be verified, so that no action is taken against anyone out of misunderstanding.
In today's age falsehood has become completely widespread; there is an abundance of unbridled lies and all kinds of reports; such rumours spread and such contradictory reports arrive that no trace of the truth can be found. In the offices of political parties false news is fabricated, and one whose newspaper does not sell fabricates astonishing and terrifying news sitting in his room and prints it in bold headlines. Today is the age of the media; through newspapers, radio, television and the internet, false news is broadcast to people with such great beauty that the truth is buried beneath these false reports, and people begin to take falsehood itself to be the truth.
Today we are passing through this very age; news becomes famous and all kinds of talk spread, but no trace is followed up of where the matter began, how it began, and how much of it is true and how much false. It is better to avoid taking interest in and passing on the news of the present age, and to keep silent about such things, lest, God forbid, we too fall within the scope of this hadith. May Allah the Exalted protect us all. Amin!
