English translation
Barā' bin ʿĀzib (RA) said: We were fourteen hundred men with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Ḥudaybiyyah. There was a well at Ḥudaybiyyah whose water we all drew and used until not a single drop of water remained. When the Prophet ﷺ learned of this (that the well had dried up and the whole army was distressed because the water was finished), he came to the well and sat on its edge. Then he ﷺ called for water for ablution and performed wuḍū', and after the ablution took some water into his mouth and supplicated. Then he ﷺ poured that mouth-water into the well and said, "Leave the well alone for a while." Then (after a while so much water welled up in it that) the whole army and their animals all drank their fill, and we kept drawing water from that same well until we departed.

To establish the truthfulness of His Prophets and Messengers, and as proof of their prophethood and messengership, Allah manifests signs that lie outside the running order of nature and contrary to normal custom; these are called miracles (muʿjizāt). Seeing them, the people of that nation are not only unable to produce anything like the miracle in response, but even if someone wished to undo it, that too proves impossible. In the same way many such deeds come about through the friends of Allah (awliyā'), which are called karāmāt. It should be kept in mind that a miracle or a karāmah is not directly the act of the prophet or the saint; rather it is the act of Allah, manifested through the prophet or saint, who has no power to bring it about himself. Many verses of the Qur'an prove this — for example Sūrah al-Anfāl, verse 17, which mentions the Prophet's ﷺ miracle when he threw a handful of pebbles toward the enemy army and, by Allah's power, they went into the eyes of the entire army. Concerning this Allah, the Lord of Might, says:

"And O Muhammad ﷺ, when you threw [the pebbles], it was not you who threw but Allah who threw."

Here we mention a few of the Prophet's ﷺ miracles:

1) Stones and trees used to greet the Prophet ﷺ with salām. (Tirmidhī and Dārimī)

2) When ʿAbdullāh bin ʿAtīk's (RA) leg was broken, the Prophet ﷺ passed his blessed hand over it, and at once his leg healed as though it had never suffered any hurt. (Bukhārī)

3) On the occasion of the Battle of the Confederates (Aḥzāb), Jābir (RA) slaughtered a kid goat and had about three and a half sers of barley ground so that bread could be made. The Prophet ﷺ put his blessed saliva into it and prayed for blessing, then put his saliva into the cooking pot and prayed for blessing. Jābir (RA) says that at that time the people of the Trench (who had been hungry for three days) numbered about a thousand men, and I swear by Allah that they all ate their fill from that food, yet the food remained just as it was. (Bukhārī and Muslim)

5) Jābir (RA) says that once on a journey the Prophet ﷺ needed to relieve himself, and he ﷺ said to some trees, "Come close together for me so that I may conceal myself among you." Jābir (RA) says: I was wondering what a miracle Allah had manifested through His beloved Prophet ﷺ, when suddenly I looked up and saw the Prophet ﷺ returning, and then I saw those trees separate from one another and go back, each to its own place. (Muslim)

7) When a bedouin was invited to faith, he said he would not believe until this lizard believed; whereupon, at the Prophet's ﷺ command, the lizard answered in perfectly clear Arabic and affirmed the oneness of Allah and that the Prophet ﷺ is the Messenger and the Seal of the Prophets. (Ṭabarānī)
