Jundub ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever is killed under a blind banner, calling to partisanship or supporting partisanship, has died a death of ignorance (jahiliyyah).” (Muslim)

This concerns a person who does not distinguish right from wrong, for whom the ways of ignorance and his own people and group are everything; who, in supporting his tribe and faction, gives no regard to justice and fairness, and in whose eyes character and honour count for nothing; in whose view whatever his people declare lawful is right — even if it be tyranny and oppression — and whatever his people declare wrong is wrong, even if it be justice and fairness; and who stands as a caller to this ignorance and a champion of it. Clearly, if such a person is killed fighting for partisanship under his banner, his death is not in the path of truth but upon ignorance.

Another saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ makes clear that love for one's people and expressing attachment to them is not the condemned partisanship. What is forbidden is such support of one's people and group as leads to injustice and wrongdoing against others. Islam does not sanction such narrow-mindedness and love.
