اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا اور بسم اللہ کی برکت
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "ہر کام جو اللہ کی حمد و ثنا سے شروع نہ کیا جائے، وہ ناقص اور بے برکت ہے۔" (ابو داؤد)
اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا کرنا دراصل اس کی اطاعت و فرمانبرداری کا اعلان ہے، اللہ تعالیٰ کا شکر کرنا یہ ہے کہ یہ اعتقاد رکھا جائے کہ سب کچھ دینے والا ایک اللہ ہی ہے، پھر اللہ کی نعمتوں پر زبان سے اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا کرنا قولی شکر ہے اور اس کے حکموں کی اطاعت کرنا عملی شکر ہے، اور عدمِ شکر کفرانِ نعمت ہے جو بہت بڑا گناہ ہے، حمد کا مطلب یہ بھی ہے کہ زبان سے تعظیم کے طور پر باری تعالیٰ کی ثنا و تعریف کرنا، اہلِ ایمان کی زبانوں پر جنت میں بھی اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد کے تذکرے ہوں گے، ارشادِ ربانی ہے:
"اور ان کی آخری پکار (یعنی جنت میں) یہی ہوگی کہ تمام تعریفیں اللہ کے لیے ہیں جو تمام جہانوں کا رب ہے۔" (یونس – ۱۰)
اس حدیثِ مبارکہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ ارشاد فرمایا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا کے بغیر جو بھی کام کیا جائے گا وہ ناقص اور بے برکت ہوگا، ہر قابلِ ذکر کام اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا سے شروع کرنا ان اسلامی شعائر میں سے ہے جن سے مسلمان پہچانا جاتا ہے، ایک اور حدیث میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا ارشادِ مبارک ہے:
"ہر وہ کام جسے بسم اللہ سے شروع نہ کیا جائے وہ ناقص اور ادھورا رہتا ہے۔"
رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی سنت یہ ہے کہ ہر قابلِ ذکر کام سے پہلے بسم اللہ ضرور پڑھا کرتے تھے، ہر مسلمان کو یہ سنت اپناتے ہوئے بسم اللہ سے کام شروع کرنے کی عادت ڈالنی چاہیے، گھر میں داخل ہوتے وقت، گھر سے نکلتے وقت، سواری پر سوار ہوتے وقت، سواری سے اترتے وقت، مسجد میں داخل ہوتے وقت، مسجد سے نکلتے وقت، بلکہ بیت الخلاء میں داخل ہونے سے پہلے، اور وہاں سے نکلنے کے فوراً بعد، کھانا کھاتے وقت، پانی پیتے وقت، کپڑے پہنتے وقت، جوتے پہنتے وقت، کوئی کتاب پڑھتے وقت، کوئی خط تحریر کرتے وقت، اپنے روزگار کا کام شروع کرنے سے پہلے، کسی سے کوئی نیا معاملہ کرنے سے پہلے، غرض ہر تبدیل شدہ حالت میں بسم اللہ سے شروع کرنے کی عادت ڈالنی چاہیے، اسی طرح خواتین جب بچے کو کھانا کھلانا شروع کریں یا کھانے میں کوئی چیز ڈالیں تو بسم اللہ پڑھ کر ڈالیں، اور ساتھ ہی اس کو بھی بچپن سے ہی بسم اللہ پڑھنا سکھائیں، غرض اس طرح روزمرہ کے کاموں کو بسم اللہ سے شروع کرنا ان معمولات میں شامل کر لیا جائے تو یہ ایک ایسا عمل ہے جس میں محنت اور دشواری کچھ نہیں اور ذرا دھیان دینے سے نامۂ اعمال میں نیکیوں کا مسلسل اضافہ ہوتا رہتا ہے، بلکہ اس عمل کی برکت سے یہ سارے کام جو بظاہر دنیاوی کام نظر آتے ہیں بذاتِ خود عبادت بن جاتے ہیں، بسم اللہ کی اہمیت کا اندازہ بخوبی اس بات سے لگایا جا سکتا ہے کہ یہ قرآن کریم کی سورۃ النمل کی آیت نمبر ۳۰ میں سے ہے:
"جو سلیمان کی طرف سے ہے اور جو بخشنے والے مہربان اللہ کے نام سے شروع ہوتا ہے۔"
ایک کافر بھی دنیا کے کام کو انجام دیتا ہے اور ایک مومن بھی، لیکن دونوں میں اتنا زبردست فرق ہے کہ کافر غفلت کی حالت میں یہ سب کام کرتا ہے، اور مومن بسم اللہ اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا سے ہر کام کا آغاز کرتا ہے، اور اس بات کا اعتراف کرتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی توفیق کے بغیر کسی کام کی تکمیل ممکن نہیں، اور اس اعتراف کے نتیجے میں اس کے دنیا کے سارے کام بھی دین کا ایک حصہ اور عبادت بن جاتے ہیں۔
اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کو اس حقیقت پر کاملِ یقین کے ساتھ ہر کام شروع کرنے سے پہلے بسم اللہ اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔ آمین!

ایک کافر بھی دنیا کے کام کو انجام دیتا ہے اور ایک مومن بھی، لیکن دونوں میں اتنا زبردست فرق ہے کہ کافر غفلت کی حالت میں یہ سب کام کرتا ہے، اور مومن بسم اللہ اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا سے ہر کام کا آغاز کرتا ہے، اور اس بات کا اعتراف کرتا ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی توفیق کے بغیر کسی کام کی تکمیل ممکن نہیں، اور اس اعتراف کے نتیجے میں اس کے دنیا کے سارے کام بھی دین کا ایک حصہ اور عبادت بن جاتے ہیں۔
اللہ تعالیٰ ہم سب کو اس حقیقت پر کاملِ یقین کے ساتھ ہر کام شروع کرنے سے پہلے بسم اللہ اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔ آمین!
English translation
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every affair that is not begun with the praise of Allah is defective and devoid of blessing." (Abu Dawud)
To praise and glorify Allah is in reality to declare one's obedience and submission to Him. To be grateful to Allah is to hold the belief that the One who gives everything is Allah alone; then, praising and glorifying Allah with the tongue for His blessings is verbal gratitude, and obeying His commands is practical gratitude, while ingratitude is a denial of His favour, which is a very great sin. Praise also means glorifying and extolling the Lord with the tongue out of reverence. The people of faith will remember and praise Allah with their tongues even in Paradise, as Allah says: "And their final call (in Paradise) will be that all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." (Yunus 10:10) In this hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated that any work done without the praise of Allah will be defective and without blessing. Beginning every notable task with the praise of Allah is among the marks of Islam by which a Muslim is recognised. In another hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Every affair that is not begun with 'Bismillah' remains defective and incomplete." It was the Prophet's practice ﷺ to always say 'Bismillah' before every notable task. Every Muslim should adopt this Sunnah and make it a habit to begin with 'Bismillah': when entering the house and leaving it, when mounting and dismounting a ride, when entering and leaving the mosque, indeed before entering the lavatory and immediately after leaving it, when eating, drinking, dressing, putting on shoes, reading a book, writing a letter, before starting one's work, and before entering into any new dealing with someone — in short, one should make it a habit to begin with 'Bismillah' in every change of state. Likewise, when women begin to feed a child or put something into food, they should do so having said 'Bismillah', and they should also teach the child from an early age to say 'Bismillah'. If beginning one's daily tasks with 'Bismillah' is made a regular habit in this way, it is an act that requires no effort or difficulty, yet with a little attention it constantly adds good deeds to one's record; rather, through the blessing of this act, all these apparently worldly tasks become acts of worship in themselves. The importance of 'Bismillah' can be well gauged from the fact that it appears in verse 30 of Surah al-Naml of the Noble Qur'an: "It is from Sulayman, and it is: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful." A disbeliever also carries out worldly tasks and so does a believer, but there is a vast difference between the two: the disbeliever does all these things in a state of heedlessness, while the believer begins every task with 'Bismillah' and the praise of Allah, acknowledging that no task can be completed without the enabling grace of Allah — and as a result of this acknowledgement, all his worldly tasks too become a part of religion and acts of worship. May Allah grant us all the ability to begin every task, with firm conviction in this reality, with 'Bismillah' and the praise of Allah. Amin!
