امام مہدی کی آمد
حضرت ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہدی میری اولاد میں سے ہوگا۔ روشن اور کشادہ پیشانی اور اونچی ناک والا۔ وہ زمین کو انصاف اور عدل سے بھر دے گا کہ جس طرح کہ وہ ظلم و ستم سے بھری ہوئی تھی۔ وہ (یعنی مہدی) سات سال حکومت کرے گا۔“ (ابو داود)
قیامت کی علامتوں میں ایک علامت ظہور مہدی بھی ہے۔ حضرت مہدی کے بارے میں اہل سنت والجماعت کا مسلک یہ ہے کہ قیامت کے قریب ایک وقت آئے گا جب دنیا میں کفر و گمراہی اور ظلم و زیادتی سے بھر جائے گی اور اہل ایمان کے لیے اللہ کی وسیع زمین تنگ ہو جائے گی تو اس وقت اللہ تعالیٰ امت مسلمہ ہی میں سے ایک مرد مجاہد کو کھڑا کرے گا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کی خاص مدد ان کے ساتھ ہوگی۔ ان کی جدوجہد سے کفر و شیطنت اور ظلم و زیادتی کا غلبہ دنیا سے ختم ہو جائے گا۔ پورے عالم میں ایمان و اسلام اور عدل و انصاف کی فضا قائم ہو جائے گی اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے غیر معمولی طریقہ پر آسمانی برکات کا ظہور ہوگا۔ احادیث سے یہ بھی معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ اسی زمانے میں دجال کا خروج ہوگا جو ہماری اس دنیا کا سب سے بڑا اور اہل ایمان کے لیے سخت ترین امتحان ہوگا۔ اس وقت نیکی اور بدی کی قوتوں میں آخری درجے کی کشمکش ہوگی۔ نیکی اور ہدایت کے قائد و علمبردار حضرت مہدی علیہ السلام ہوں گے اور بدی اور کفر کا علمبردار دجال ہوگا۔ پھر اسی زمانے میں حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کا نزول ہوگا اور انہی کے ذریعہ اللہ تعالیٰ دجال اور اس کے فتنے کو ختم کرائے گا۔ الغرض حضرت مہدی علیہ السلام کے بارے میں اہل سنت کا مسلک اور تصور یہی ہے۔ رہے وہ لوگ جنہوں نے محض دنیا والوں کو فریب میں مبتلا کرنے کے لیے خود کو مہدی موعود کہا یا کہلوایا تو اس میں کوئی شک نہیں کہ وہ بالکل جھوٹے اور مکار تھے۔
ایک حدیث میں یوں آتا ہے: ”مہدی میری نسل سے اور فاطمہ کی اولاد میں سے ہوں گے۔“ (ابو داؤد)۔ ایک اور حدیث میں یوں آتا ہے کہ (آخری زمانے میں) میری امت پر ان کے ارباب حکومت کی طرف سے سخت مصیبتیں آئیں گی یہاں تک کہ اللہ کی وسیع زمین ان کے لیے تنگ ہو جائے گی۔ اس وقت اللہ تعالیٰ میری نسل میں سے ایک شخص کو کھڑا کرے گا کہ اس کی جدوجہد سے ایسا انقلاب برپا ہوگا کہ اللہ کی زمین جس طرح ظلم و ستم سے بھر گئی تھی اسی طرح عدل و انصاف سے بھر جائے گی۔ آسمان والے بھی اس سے راضی ہوں گے اور زمین کے رہنے والے بھی۔ زمین میں جو بیج ڈالا جائے گا اس کو زمین اپنے پاس روک کے نہیں رکھے گی بلکہ اس سے جو پیدا بر آمد ہونا چاہیے وہ بر آمد ہوگا اور اسی طرح آسمان بارش کے قطرے ذخیرہ بنا کر نہیں رکھے گا بلکہ ان کو برسا دے گا۔ اور یہ مرد مجاہد لوگوں کے درمیان سات سال، یا آٹھ سال یا نو سال زندگی گزارے گا (مستدرک حاکم)۔

ایک اور روایت میں آتا ہے کہ: ”آخری زمانے میں ایک خلیفہ ہوگا جو (ضرورت مندوں) کو مال تقسیم کرے گا اور گن گن کر نہیں رکھے گا“ (مسلم)۔ علمائے کرام کی رائے میں وہ شخص غالباً مہدی ہی ہیں۔
ابو داؤد کی ایک طویل روایت میں یوں آتا ہے کہ: ”(آخر زمانے) میں جب خلیفہ کا انتقال ہوگا تو (دوسرے سربراہ کے معاملے پر) اختلاف اٹھ کھڑا ہوگا۔ اسی دوران اہل مدینہ میں سے ایک شخص (مدینہ سے نکل کر) مکہ کی طرف بھاگ جائے گا۔ مکہ کے لوگ (اس کے مرتبے کو پہچان کر) اس کے پاس آئیں گے اور اس کو (گھر سے) باہر لے کر آئیں گے (تا کہ اس کو اپنا حاکم بنا لیں)۔ وہ شخص اگرچہ (فتنے کے خوف سے) یہ منصب قبول کرنے کو پسند نہیں کرے گا مگر لوگ (منت سماجت کر کے) اس کے ہاتھ پر بیعت کر لیں گے۔ یہ بیعت حجر اسود اور مقام ابراہیم کے درمیان عمل میں آئے گی۔“

English translation
It is narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The Mahdi will be from my offspring. He will have a bright, broad forehead and a high-bridged nose. He will fill the earth with fairness and justice just as it had been filled with oppression and tyranny. He (that is, the Mahdi) will rule for seven years.”
One of the signs of the Last Day is the appearance of the Mahdi. Regarding Hazrat Mahdi, the position of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah is that a time will come near the Day of Judgement when the world will be filled with disbelief, misguidance, oppression and injustice, and Allah's vast earth will become narrow for the people of faith. At that time Allah Almighty will raise up a striving man from within the Muslim ummah itself. Allah's special help will be with him. Through his struggle the dominance of disbelief, satanic influence, oppression and injustice will be brought to an end in the world. Throughout the whole world an atmosphere of faith and Islam, of justice and fairness, will be established, and heavenly blessings will appear from Allah Almighty in an extraordinary manner. From the ahadith it is also learnt that in that same era the Dajjal will emerge, who will be the greatest trial of this world of ours and the severest test for the people of faith. At that time there will be a final-degree struggle between the forces of good and evil. The leader and standard-bearer of goodness and guidance will be Hazrat Mahdi (peace be upon him), and the standard-bearer of evil and disbelief will be the Dajjal. Then in that same era Hazrat 'Isa (peace be upon him) will descend, and through him Allah Almighty will bring an end to the Dajjal and his mischief. In short, this is the position and understanding of Ahl al-Sunnah concerning Hazrat Mahdi (peace be upon him). As for those who, merely to entangle the people of the world in deception, called themselves — or had themselves called — the promised Mahdi, there is no doubt that they were utterly false and deceitful.
In one hadith it comes thus: “The Mahdi will be from my lineage and from the offspring of Fatimah.” (Abu Dawud). In another hadith it comes thus: that (in the last era) severe afflictions will come upon my ummah from their rulers, until Allah's vast earth becomes narrow for them. At that time Allah Almighty will raise up a man from my lineage whose struggle will bring about such a revolution that Allah's earth, which had been filled with oppression and tyranny, will likewise be filled with justice and fairness. The dwellers of the heavens will be pleased with him, and so will the dwellers of the earth. The seed sown in the earth will not be held back by the earth; rather whatever ought to come forth from it will come forth, and likewise the sky will not hoard up the drops of rain but will pour them down. And this striving man will live among the people for seven years, or eight years, or nine years (Mustadrak Hakim).
It is narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The world will not come to an end until a man from my household is raised up. His name will correspond to my name (that is, Muhammad).”
In another narration it comes: “In the last era there will be a caliph who will distribute wealth (to those in need) and will not keep count of it” (Muslim). In the view of the learned scholars, that person is most probably the Mahdi himself.
In a lengthy narration of Abu Dawud it comes thus: “(In the last era) when a caliph passes away, a dispute will arise (over the matter of the next leader). During this, a man from the people of Madinah will flee (leaving Madinah) towards Makkah. The people of Makkah, recognising his standing, will come to him and bring him out (from his house), so that they may make him their ruler. Although that man will not like to accept this office (out of fear of discord), the people will, after much entreaty, pledge allegiance at his hand. This pledge will take place between the Black Stone and the Station of Ibrahim.”
