'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم taught her this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for all good, sooner or later, that which I know and that which I do not know; and I seek refuge with You from all evil, sooner or later, that which I know and that which I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for every good that Your servant and Your Prophet asked You for, and I seek Your refuge from every evil from which Your servant and Your Prophet sought refuge. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and for every word and deed that brings one nearer to it. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the Fire and from every word and deed that brings one nearer to it. O Allah, I ask You to make whatever destiny You have decreed for me better for me." (Ibn Majah)

Supplication (du'a) is an act of worship for which no particular place, day or time is fixed; rather, one is not only permitted to make it at every moment and every hour, but Allah is greatly pleased with the one who asks of Him and severely displeased with the one who does not, as Allah says: "Your Lord has said: Call upon Me, I will answer you. (And He has declared:) Those who are too proud to worship Me — that is, to call upon Me — will enter Hell in humiliation." (Ghafir 60) When we reflect on the blessed life of the Prophet, it seems that not a single moment or hour of his pure life passed without supplication. In the Noble Qur'an, more than seventy supplications have been taught in connection with various events, and by a cautious estimate the number of supplications established from authentic hadith is roughly seven hundred — from which one can gauge the importance of du'a. Finally, we pray to Allah to grant all of us Muslims the ability to observe the supplications established from the Qur'an and Sunnah, so that along with the reward of the supplications we may also attain the reward of following the Sunnah.
