تعریف میں غلو اور مبالغہ کرنے کی ممانعت

'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the noble Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated concerning Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him). I am only Allah's servant, so say of me: the servant of Allah and His Messenger." (Bukhari and Muslim)

However much one praises and glorifies Allah, the Exalted, it falls short, for His pure Essence encompasses all the attributes of perfection. Allah's attributes are so boundless and beyond count that it is impossible for a human being to enumerate or even to conceive of them. Regarding this, Allah Himself says: "Say (O Prophet): If the ocean were ink for the words of my Lord, the ocean would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it to add to it." (Al-Kahf 109) The Prophet is the most excellent and best of Allah's creation; Allah has honoured him with special nobility and grace in both this world and the Hereafter. As the poet said: "Praise can never be rendered as it is truly due — after God, you are the greatest; the tale, in short." To praise the Prophet and to spread his praise is a matter of great blessing and reward, but exceeding the proper limit in it is not permissible. This is why the Prophet said in this hadith not to exaggerate in his praise as the Christians went so far in praising Jesus (peace be upon him) that they made him — Allah forbid — God and the son of God, held to that belief, and, abandoning monotheism, fell into polytheism. It is perfectly clear from the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah that to abandon the Sunnah of the Prophet in religion and adopt any other path is utter misguidance and ruin. May Allah grant us all the ability to follow the Sunnah correctly. (Ameen)
